Articles
Andrei Mironov’s name was rarely seen in a byline. He dedicated most of his life to helping foreign journalist navigate their way around the treacherous terrain of the broken USSR, identifying genuine stories behind the politics and the true victims of the post-soviet regime. But the escalating conflict in Eastern Ukraine urged Andrei to give voice to struggling families in Slavyansk. It’s as if he wanted to make sure that they will be heard in case nobody else tells their story. Andrei and Andy filed their last two stories to “Novaya Gazeta” days before their deaths. Both pieces are uploaded below, one has been translated into English the other will be translated shortly.
We hope that in this section reporters around the world would kindly share their stories that Andrei assisted on as a fixer and interpreter. We would be very grateful if you could please add a paragraph or two on how you remember working with Andrei. Maybe also share a particular incident or anecdote that stuck in your mind to provide a bit of context and shed more light on Andrei’s extraordinary life. To do so, please e-mail Sophia Kayes at remembering.andrei@gmail.com and I will gladly add your post to this section. THANK YOU!
